Table Tennis

Wednesdays: 2:00-4:00 PM - Will resume in the fall.

The Table Tennis group is recruiting new players for the upcoming league. Some of the players are headed for a warmer climate for a few months and some new recruits are needed to join in. Haven’t played since junior high school? No problem—now’s your chance to enjoy playing once again in a top notch facility with your fellow Newcomers.

Ironically, the Newcomers newly formed activity group of ping-pong players came into being almost exactly the same time that Traverse City opened its world class, sixteen-table facility just east of town. Built by Don Hayden, it is called the Hayden Table Tennis Training on Bates Road, and it is one of the best such centers in the United States. Anyone interested should contact Pete Peterson at wvpcp@sbcglobal.net or 231-946-9512 if you would like to give it a try, or just show up at the Center. Everyone is welcome! The group will meet Wednesdays from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Daily passes for the Center cost $7. Lessons and training are available.

	All the participants are working to redevelop old ping-pong skills and getting a pretty good workout in the process. We suspect there are other closet players in Newcomers who remain to be discovered. Those demonstrating an early acumen in the game include Dave Charlton, Pete Peterson (current leader), George Cairns, Ron Wallace and Jim Neibauer (pictured at left).
