Walk in the Woods

This activity affords members an opportunity for a low impact, casually paced hike through some of the many beautiful and topographically diverse areas in the Grand Traverse area. We love to stop and smell the flowers, look at the foliage and observe the local fauna. Walks are usually on the second Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m., April thru November weather-permitting. The details for each are in each month's Newsletter. From January through March, we switch to Cross Country Skiis and/or Snowshoes.

Walks last between one and two hours and are typically less than two miles in length. Lunch following the walk has become an enjoyable feature.

If anyone has suggestions for a walk please let me know.

2008 Upcoming Walks
June 14th

11:00 a.m.

 Old Mission Point Park. 
This walk was originally scheduled for April but was snowed out. This trail system includes several elevations but no steep climbs and has meadows, forests and views and the drive up the Old Mission Peninsula is lovely. Take M-37, Center Road, almost all the way up the OMP and turn right on Tompkins. Turn left at Brinkman and right on Murray. The parking area is on the right.
July 12th

11:00 a.m.

 Empire Bluffs Trail. 
Yet another beautiful walk leading to a spectacular view of the Lake Michigan shoreline. The trail head is off Wilco Road just about a mile south of the village of Empire. You can pick up Wilco from the north by taking Lake Street south from Empire. Lake turns into Wilco. From the south you can pick it up from M-22. The trail head is on the west side of Wilco about 1/2 mi. from M-22.
August   No walk this month.
