We are currently working on the third Thursday of the month from 2:30 PM -- 5:15 PM. Join us as we work in the concession area, sweep floors, sell tickets, usher, run errands, and sometimes even get to see the movie. Sign up now! 'See you at the State' took on another meaning for some of the nine Newcomer
volunteers on Monday, April 14. Five people were new State Theatre volunteers
and four had previously volunteered. Not only did Newcomers assume the normal
ushering, concessions, and box office roles, they had to study the fire rules.
An unexpected fire alarm the previous week brought up the lack of preparedness
for a real fire. Present were Bud and Nancy Dockter and Marlene and Dave Steider
as ushers; Bob Pelto in the box office; Warren and Sharlene Kruger as ushers
(and jack-of-all trades), and Carole Groves as roamer. With a total earnings of
$21.00 in concessions and 14 viewers, our tasks were a little light. Each
learned something new, signed volunteer papers, and had a chance to get to know
others better. Lynn Bailey, the house manager, was impressed with our
camaraderie, enthusiasm, and questions. She thought that we all knew each other
before, which wasn't true. We just all knew that we were there to expand our
volunteer horizons and our friendships. Volunteers are entitled to popcorn, pop,
to see a movie if the position allows, and for a trial period, a voucher for
another movie.
