Ride #2 (re-scheduled for Thursday, 19 June) – Cadillac towards Tustin on the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail
Note: We had to reschedule this ride due to thunderstorms in the area on June 4th.
Overview: This ride will start at the Cadillac City Park in downtown Cadillac (Parking along Cass Street and in the parking lot on S. Lake St at the end of Cass St). We will ride in two groups (Easy/Intermediate and Advanced) south on the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail towards Tustin. After the out and back ride, we will eat at the After 26 Depot Café which is across the street from where we will be parking.
Meeting Location – Shay Locomotive display at Cadillac City Park on Cass Street. Plan on a 1-hour drive from downtown Traverse City. There are restrooms across the street from where we will be parking.
Meeting Time - Meeting time is 9:45 am. The ride (all groups) will start at 10 am sharp.
The Ride: We will form into Easy/Intermediate (12-15 mph) and Advanced (15+ mph) riding groups at the parking lot, right in front of the Shay Locomotive display on Cass Street.
From the meeting point at the Shay Locomotive display, we will ride south on S. Lake Street for a quarter mile to reach the start of the bike trail. This stretch of road is very safe for cycling. The Fred Meijer Trail starts at the intersection of S. Lake Street and South Street/Holly Road. The trail heads south for a total of 92 miles and is a smooth, paved asphalt surface. We will ride south as far as the town of Tustin which is 11.8 miles away. The Advanced riding group may ride as far as Tustin, but the Easy/Intermediate riding group will ride out for an hour and then turnaround and head back to the parking area.
During the ride, avoid riding 3 abreast since it is too time consuming/difficult to clear the path for oncoming riders and walkers.
Lunch: We are targeting lunch between Noon and 12:15 pm at the After 26 Depot Café (127 W. Cass Street, Cadillac, MI 49601) which is directly across the street from the Shay Locomotive display.
