Newcomers Bike Ride #4 (Thursday, July 10th) – Sutton Park TC to Farm Club, and back after lunch
Overview: This ride will start in Suttons Bay at the Sutton Park parking lot along M22 and Beach St (south end of Suttons Bay). We will cross M22 together and ride south along M22 (wide shoulder) for about 300 yards, and then turn right on Richter Rd, and then right on Eckerle Rd before turning south onto the Leelanau Trail. We will ride south on the Leelanau bike trail until the trail crosses Lake Leelanau Drive where we will leave the bike trail and take the gravel path up to Farm Club. From Suttons Park, it is about 11 miles of riding. The Farm Club opens at Noon, so we need to leave Sutton Park no later than 10:50am so that everyone can get to Farm Club before the line to enter gets too long (Note: In the summer, there is usually a line of people waiting to get into Farm Club before Noon. So we all need to be there by 11:50am if we want to avoid waiting for a table). After lunch, everyone will head back down the Leelanau Trail and ride back to Suttons Bay.
Meeting Location – Sutton Park in Suttons Bay (south end of Suttons Bay along M22 and Beach St).
Meeting Time - Meeting time is 10:30 am. The ride (all groups) will start at 10:50 amsharp.
Ride Notes: This is the busy season on the Leelanau Trail. We will encounter lots of walkers and bikers. Please, no riding more than 2 bikes abreast.
NOTE: The trail crossing at Lake Leelanau Drive is dangerous. The automobile traffic from both the north and south is typically going 50-60 mph and has the right of way. Everyone needs to stop, look, and wait for a safe break in the traffic before crossing.
Lunch: The Farm Club (10051 S. Lake Leelanau Drive Traverse City, MI 49684) opens at Noon and has both indoor and outdoor seating. To get there from the bike trail, after crossing Lake Leelanau Drive southbound, immediately turn left (north) onto a wooden boardwalk and gravel path that parallels Lake Leelanau Drive. It’s about 0.35 miles from the trail up the driveway to The Farm Club. If the weather is nice we can use the outdoor tables on the lawn for drinking and picnicking with snacks from their marketplace and outdoor bar. Farm Club has their own website (https://www.farmclubtc.com).
